Day 18 "My Grandfather's Shirt"

Russell Quidley was an old school Hatteras Islander. He was a commercial fisherman but he refused to eat any kind of seafood. He said he was allergic to it but really, he hated it because as a poor island boy, it was pretty much all he ever had to eat. His hands were rough and weathered from years in the sun and salt air and so was he. He was one of the most stubborn people I have ever met in my entire life. As gruff and harsh as he seemed, he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was my grandfather. He adored me and I adored him. When he died I wrapped up in this shirt for comfort. I wear it a lot in the winter when I'm cold, but more often I wear it when I'm having a down day just for a little comfort. It's kind of like a nice warm hug from my Granddaddy. I miss that guy!
